At BM Windows, we offer 12 colors (in addition to the standard white) that you can choose from to make your windows really pop! Colors range from black to red to tan to forest green. White grids are by far the most common color when it comes to replacement window grids, but you can also get grids that match your replacement window frames. You can also come up with your own custom grid design-the possibilities are only limited by your imagination! If you have a Craftsman style home, it is common to only have grids in the upper portion of a window. You can also have grids just in either the top or the bottom sash of a single or double hung window. Instead of a window being divided into six smaller sections, your window can be divided into nine or twelve. So, for example in a window with Colonial style grids, you can add extra grid lines to create more, smaller grids. One way to customize your grid pattern is to vary the number of grids you put in each window. Custom Grids for Your Replacement WindowsĬustomizing the grids in your replacement windows is a great way to make your San Diego home stand out in your neighborhood. These look great in larger windows, as they are more to scale. We also have sculptured grids available that are 1” in width. Flat grids are better suited for a more modern style of home, while sculptured grids give a home a more traditional look. You can choose grids that are 5/8” in width and flat, or grids that are sculptured to give them some added dimension. In any of the three patterns mentioned above, as well as in replacement windows with custom grids, you have the choice of three different grid styles. Windows with a Perimeter pattern will have a bit more of an unobstructed view than windows with a Queen Anne pattern because there are fewer grids to look through. San Diego homeowners who choose windows with these patterns have the advantage of a less-obstructed view to the outdoors than windows with colonial grids, while still adding some architectural interest to the exterior of the home. In the Perimeter pattern, the entire window system is bordered with grids, as opposed to each individual panel in the Queen Anne pattern.īoth styles work well in Prairie-style homes, Queen Anne homes, and even some modern styles of homes. This creates a window with one large, rectangular, open area in the center of the window panel. In the Queen Anne pattern, each window panel has grid lines just inside the window frame, crossing over each other near the corners. These two patterns, Perimeter and Queen Anne, are similar to each other, which is why we have listed them together. They can also be used to give a more modern home a timeless look and feel. This makes them much easier to clean than older windows!Ĭolonial windows look great in Colonial, Cape Cod, Tudor, and certain Victorian style homes. But unlike the divided windows of old, today’s replacement windows with grids have the grids in between the two panes of glass in dual pane windows. It gives homes a more traditional look, mimicking the look of older windows that were actually made up of multiple smaller pieces of glass that were held together by the grids. It looks like a checkered pattern, visually splitting the windowpane into several smaller panes-usually six.
